E Gabriel WorksE Gabriel Works, Principal

As principal of Works Associates, Gabriel provides consulting services that focus on enhancing the practice of philanthropy.

Since 2001, Gabriel has leveraged her distinctive knowledge of private, community, and corporate philanthropy into a special niche focused on developing and delivering national training programs for foundation professionals, as well as supporting professional development initiatives. To date she has been responsible for the development and on-going performance of nearly a dozen intensive training courses offered nationally.

Gabriel has served in the program departments of both the Charles Stewart Mott and Frey Foundations. Her work as both a regional/local grantmaker, and then a grantmaker working with both a national and international portfolio led to the last eight years in the very privileged position of studying the practice of grantmaking. As a consultant developing national training curricula for both the Council on Foundation’s Community Foundations Department (www.cof.org) and as lead consultant and faculty for The Grantmaking School (www.grantmakingschool.org) Gabriel had in-depth conversations and interviews with people from literally hundreds of foundations.  She developed and translated the knowledge from this and other research into practical training tools.

Grounding Gabriel’s practice in philanthropy is more than a decade of extensive experience in the non-profit sector, beginning with building and leading a number of grassroots organizations, followed by services as Community Relations/Fund Development Officer for a community health center and as leader of a major community revitalization project.

Gabriel holds a B.A. in Liberal Arts from Denison University, a certificate in language and art history studies from the Université de Besançon, France, and was accredited as an Enrolled Agent with the U.S. Treasury.
